1. A Ensure that the stuffing box packing gland is loose enough so that the last ring of packing is visible.
2. B Ensure that the stuffing box packing gland is tight enough so that there is no leakoff whatsoever.
3. C Ensure that the stuffing box packing gland is taken up just enough so that the leakoff rate is a periodic drip.
4. D Ensure that the stuffing box packing gland is loose enough so that there is a steady stream of water leaking by.
