1. A connect the shackle to the bosun's chair with a hook
2. B run the gantline through the shackle and then make fast to the bosun's chair
3. C tie the bitter end of the gantline to the shackle before shackling it to the bosun's chair
4. D never allow the shackle pin to ride on the stay
