| One point = 11.25 degrees, so in this case if you are heading South (180), then by the arc of the green light (112.5 degrees) alone they could be heading anywhere from 349 to 237. Based on that information they can be heading W (270) or NW (315). SW(224), S (180), SE (135), E (090), NE (045), and N (000) are not within that range. In the answers provided W was not there, so the only answer available is NW within the calculated range of courses. Also, seeing that there was no red sidelight and the mast headlights are offset, it eliminates 349 as a possible course. |

| I'll add my two cents since the comment section is so controversial. This configuration is correct. If you think it's wrong, I urge you to draw it out. Looking south, one point port bow just drawn in that configuration as in the picture and you'll get the same conclusion. Best of luck everyone! |

| This answer is correct. The left masthead light is above the right masthead light indicating the vessel is moving relative port to starboard. Since ownship is traveling south, the sighted vessel is traveling in a westward direction. Answers B and C are incorrect. One point off the port bow is ahead of ownship. A vessel ahead traveling SW would show its stern light. The answer is NW. |
