I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this one.?
A three-phase alternator is developing 300 amps, with a 0.8 power factor, at 450 volts. The true indicated power on the kilowatt meter, located on the main switchboard, will be ____________.
A) 133 kw
B) 155 kw
C) 187 kw (Correct answer)
D) 212 kw
Hm.. I was under the impression Amps x Volts = Watts, so I multiplied the two and came up with 135k, which led me to suspect A. But then I figured, maybe it has to do with the .8 power factor? So I divided by .8 and came up with 168,750. I think I'm way off the mark here.
