Discussing this exam question.
Here is another one of those badly worded questions. The rule states that the vessels must be within one halve miles and in sight of one another. Again only 63% of supposedly correct but really wrong answers. There is no correct answer to this question the way it is written.
Ignore this on too.

There is no "half mile" requirement for the signal when "overtaking."
34 (a), "...(a) When power-driven vessels are in sight of one another and meeting or crossing at a distance within half a mile of each other..."
34 (c), "...power-driven vessel intending to overtake another power-driven vessel shall indicate her intention by the following signals on her whistle..."

34 (c), "...power-driven vessel intending to overtake another power-driven vessel shall indicate her intention by the following signals on her whistle..."
If PDV overtakes towing astern RAM vessel or fishing vessel then what? No sound signals? Or because it should not impede their passage it should not overtake at all? Or how about if the towing is not RAM
stupid question
