Rule 27 (c) "A power-driven vessel engaged in a towing operation such as severely restricts the towing vessela nd her tow in their ability to deviate from the course shall...." The rule doesn't specify any towing configuration

Awful question that should be removed from the test bank. The reason that "towing astern is correct" is because the only configuration you'd have a "towing Identification light" is if you are towing astern. INTERNATIONAL you only have a towing light when towing astern and this question asks "... shall show lights in addition to her towing identification lights." The only towing ID light in this situation is the yellow towing light over the white stern light. The mast head lights are not identification lights, just two mast head lights. STUPID QUESTION...only 38% of people get this correct, that means something is wrong.

Tricky. Yes only a hawser two (towed astern) can use yellow in International waters. Crazy.

I guess they got the answer for this question solely based on the picture provided on page 79 of the rule book. Doesn’t say that no other towing vessel CANT display RWR or ball daimond ball. Stupid question!!!!

International - "in addition to towing identification lights". Towing astern only situation when showing a towing light in international. White lights in vertical line are referred to as masthead lights.

Rule 27c says "in addition to...rule 24a". Rule 24a is towing astern.
